Our Why

The Bozzelli Race for the Future honors Libert and Madeline Bozzelli, local humanitarians who dedicated their lives to giving back to the Cuyahoga Falls, Akron, and Summit County communities. The well-known, well-loved couple raised over $200 million for organizations and causes like Akron Children’s Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association, Arthritis Foundation, Center for the Blind, Ohio Ballet, Akron Civic Theater, Akron Symphony Orchestra, American Diabetes Association, and countless others. To honor Libert and Madeline's legacy, a different charity or organization each year will be selected to receive all race profits.
This year, all proceeds will benefit the perianesthesia team at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Why Akron Children's Hospital's Perianestheisa Team?
Facing surgery can be overwhelming for a child and their family. The perianesthesia team cares for children before and after anesthesia, ensuring they are safe, monitored, and comforted during some of the most vulnerable moments of their care.
Funds raised through the Bozzelli Race for the Future will support comfort items and essential needs that help ease fear and anxiety, from stuffed animals and small toys to other resources that make the surgical experience gentler and more reassuring for young patients. These simple items can make a meaningful difference, helping children feel calmer, braver, and more secure.
This cause is especially meaningful to the Bozzelli family. Libert and Madeline were longtime champions of Akron Children’s Hospital, with Madeline and Libert serving as dedicated board members and both playing significant roles in helping raise millions of dollars on behalf of the hospital.
